The Call Process
We are looking for a new permanent pastor. To prepare for a new pastor we are discerning who we are, & what God is calling us to be. When we have discerned these things, we will call a new pastor to join us in our mission.

Elect Call Committee
On April 6th, we elected 6 members of our call committee. They begin meeting the third week of April.

Discern
The call committee will lead the congregation in discernment of who we are, who God is calling us to be, and what we’re looking for in our next pastor.

Writing our profile
The call committee will write our Ministry Site Profile for the interview process.

Interviews
The call committee will work with the Bishop’s office to find and interview pastoral candidates.

The call committee will work with the Bishop’s office to find and interview pastoral candidates.

The Call Committee prepares and interview process that includes:
- write interview questions based on the MSP.
- prepare materials that candidates may ask for
- prepare for interview questions from the candidate
- conduct practice interviews
- Interview candidates & also be interviewed by candidates
- check references of candidate
- review cadidate’s materials such as writing and preaching
- recommend a candidate of choice to the congregation for vote
- facilitate a congregation’s meeting of the candidate.
First Lutheran Council’s role in the call process is to negotiate compensation with the pastoral candidate prior to the congregation’s vote on the pastoral candidate and to chair the special congregation meeting to vote on the call.
St. Paul Area Synod’s role:
- to seek out potential pastor candidates all across the US.
- to share our congregation’s Ministry Site Profile with potential candidates.
- to screen candidates who are unfit for ministry due to professional and personal misconduct.
- to equip and support our call committee in developing an interview and discernment process.
- to provide compensation guidelines.
- to be a discernment partner in prayer and conversation.

May 17 update
ButtonThe call committee has met with our synod staff relator, Deacon Krista Lind and has been oriented to the next phase of this call process. With a knowledge of the work ahead of them, they have begun meeting weekly.
They are rooting themselves in prayer together. Ongoing members of the committee are working with the new members to become familiar with the Ministry Site Profile and what this congregation is looking for in a new pastor.
The installation & commissioning of the new call committee will be on June 7th with Deacon Krista Lind.
May 31 update
ButtonThe call committee continues to meet on a weekly basis. They have begun writing interview questions based on the MSP.
They have also identified some pastors with whom they can do practice interviews, learned of some helpful interview techniques, and identified roles and responsibilities for different members of the call committee.
